3.3. Ongoing usage and maintenance

nLive is more or less self-maintaining. After the initial set up, it usually needs nothing more to keep running. However, if you choose to, you may conduct the following maintenance as needed.

Backing up / restoring: If you like to backup the business group definitions, you may do so by clicking on the Download definitions button on the business group set up screen. When you click on this button, you get a dialog box showing a flat file representation of the groups. Copy and paste the contents into a flat text file. If you would like to backup the entire contents of the databases, you may do so by first stopping the processes of nLive. Once stopped, you may make a backup copy of all the contents of C:\Vigiliti\nLive4.0\data for Windows or /opt/nlive/data/ for Linux. Then start nLive. Restoring nLive requires that you stop it first, copy over the backup into the aforementioned location, and then start the process. That is all there is to it.

Re-Tuning: During normal course of business, the nature of the traffic changes over long periods of time. Therefore, it is only natural that a profile created initially will gradually become less representative of the traffic. In such cases, it is recommended that you do one of the following:

  1. Re-tune the profile by selecting it under Profile Tuning menu.
  2. Duplicate an existing profile, then re-tune the copied profile by selecting it under Profile Tuning menu. This will ensure that you have the original profile, if you like to switch back to it at some point.
  3. Create a brand new profile from scratch, then tune the profile by selecting it under Profile Tuning menu.
