4.1. User Interface Organization

nLive user interface is organized into tabs. Some tabs are unavailable on some editions of the product. There are tabs which have live charts and graphs. These are generally called dashboards because they update every few minutes. Then there are tabs for searching, reporting, etc. Another part of the user interface can be opened to modify the settings.

The top of the user interface is a bar with several displays and tabs that open up the dashboards, reports, graphs, etc. This is shown in Figure 4.1, “Top bar”. The left end shows the product logo and edition. Next, it shows the total number of events processed per minute in all the sensors. Below is the number of interior hosts seen by all of the sensors put together. The hosts are counted only once even when they are seen at multiple sensors. Only recently seen hosts are counted. Below the hosts, it shows whether the system is currently tuning for problem detection. If it is not tuning now, no indication is provided. To the right is where it shows the number of problems that are occurring on all of the sensors put together. Each of the three levels of problem severities are shown using a color code - red, orange and yellow. The circle icons that show these are clickable. When clicked, it will open the problems tab and show the currently occurring problems. To the right of that is the information of the currently logged in user. The Settings icon is next. When clicked, this will take the user interface to the Settings mode. To the right of that are a few hyperlinks to reach support, show help, or to logout of the current user interface session.
